How To Eat A Rotten Apple: Sweet Science (BK)

Updated: Oct 22, 2020

As New Yorker's living in this big city, with thousands of different options to either quench our thirst or to satisfy your taste buds, somehow we always find ourselves asking the same question.. "Yo! What we gonna eat?"/ Where we gonna go eat? LOL followed by its usual response.. "Facts".

Look no further, HOW TO EAT A ROTTEN APPLE is your tool guide for you to find the best spots to pickup some food or grab a drink at bars/restaurant's throughout the city. We're going to give you real reviews, on taste, service, cost, ambiance, with real pictures of each meal of that we ordered (none of that copy and paste bullshit from the website).

This ongoing post will list everything from street-food like the Halal truck on the corner or the local pizza spot all the way up to your white table cloth spots with the overpriced appetizer list and small portions.

Ayo Brooklyn.. this one for you!

Yesterday, I was all over the place and somehow ended up in Brooklyn. I did my running around, spent some money, and you know how that goes.. once you finish spending money.. almost broke, all of you a sudden you have this big ass appetite. BK is huge so its always a lot of options. It was mid-day, covid rules are still in effect and places were just beginning to open up.

I had a couple options in mind, but I'm not gonna lie, Sweet Science was at the top of the list. I've been here once before.. and had a decent experience, so of course I would give them another try.. Sweet Science is a cool, calm, relaxed environment with good food and drinks.. exactly what I needed... S.S is located in Williamsburg and I wasn't to far away. When we arrived, we had the option of sitting outside or dining in. Sitting outside was out of the question, because fall is just beginning to set in and I'm not sitting outside, shivering trynna hold a plastic fork, lol. (I hate COVID). That outside dinning shit was cool when it was 80+ degrees but now.. the wrong gust of wind would have your shoulders shoot up like turtle shell.. I'm good.

We decided to sit inside.. We had to wear a mask to enter the establishment and once in, we were greeted by the hostess, Jessica (real cool). She explained to us that, patrons clothes, front/back, and the bottoms of each sneaker must sprayed(mist) with a solution in order to be seated. I didn't mind much, at this point I just wanted to eat. After we were sprayed down like sidewalks in the summer time (lol, I'm playin,) we were able to select our seats. The restaurant was empty, just one other set of diners, so we were able to select the better table.

Once seated, Jessica, brought over a couple cups of water and asked if we would like anything else to drink. I asked for 2 Hennesy's, neat.. they didn't have it. I then asked for 2 Jamesons, neat, they didn't that. Next, I asked for Dusse, neat... out of it. lol. She explained that everything was on back order due to the pandemic and they should be restocking the bar soon.. We finally settled on Jack Daniels, neat and 2 beers. I asked for 2 Coronas (fuck COVID!), they didn't have it either. We ended with one Heineken and one Tecate (Mexican Beer).. The Tecate was cool, but wouldn't be my first choice.

We knew we were going to document our experience, so we wanted to order a few options. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, Steak Cubano (medium well) that came with a side of fries, and we ordered an additional side of Mac & Cheese.

  1. Shrimp & Grits $18- It was good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the grits were creamy, not lumpy nor loose at all. It was topped with a garlic pesto sauce (fire). I'm not a big fan of pesto but this was well worth it. It wasn't too appealing to the eye, but the taste exceeded my expectation.

  2. Steak Cubano $17 - Also good. the steak was cooked how I like it (medium well) and we were able to substitute the regular white onions for red onions (if you know, you know). And that came with an order of fries.

  3. Mac & Cheese $9 - The Mac and Cheese was fire! It had a blend of 4 cheeses and had small pieces of jalapeños and bacon bits in it.. crazy! This was honestly the best part of the meal. I bust the whole thing down.

Overall, Sweet Science was good. The food was tasty. The service was good, Jess continued to ask us if we needed anything throughout our stay. The ambiance was perfect for a mid-day, early evening stay. The art was cool (you'll see below).. And the music was good. I don't know about others, but the background music can make or break a restaurant experience for me.

Thank you Sweet Science!

Side note: I ended up giving Jessica a $30 tip.. I didn't know that the tip was already included in the bill and I gave her an additional $15. Next time I'm there I gotta remind her of that. Matter fact, she should remember me, mask or not. Lol. Be Sure to look over your bill people.
