Rules Of Engagement: Never Give Too Much = Because You'll Always Give Too Little

Never Give Too Much = Because You'll Always Give Too Little.. the intention of this rule, is to manage the unsolicited expectations set upon you by other's.

We are told to "give it your all" .. "give it your best" .. but the consequences of those mantras often go unexplained.. or the false-positive interpretation of that effort go untold. The concept of those phrases are genuine and the result of your efforts should have a satisfying outcome.. However, the consequences of the expectations you set, due to your efforts can be much more damaging than you think.

When you give someone or something your all, you set a standard. A standard that must be exceeded with every following effort or at the very least, matched. Your effort(s) now, have become your reputation.. your face card. It is what is expected of/from you, from that point on. But when your efforts are thought fall short, your reputation is used against you. You begin to be viewed as inadequate or disinterested. The very thing that has put you in favor, now places you in disdain.

Manage your efforts.. Strategically spoon-feed people with your attention, love, and efforts. The value of these things are too high.. it must be given in doses. By rationing your efforts, etc. you control the momentum of the relationship. Whether it continues, stands still, or ends.

"If you give it your all.. what else do you have left to give"

Giving too much or displaying too much effort can make you appear weak, overeager, or inflict the thought that you are overcompensating.. People will then begin to despise you. Your efforts begin to appear as an annoyance rather than support. Be careful with how much effort you put into others.

Rules Of Engagement R.O.E are a set of internal rules that define the degree and/or manner in which the use of strategic thought and action(s) are applied. Rules Of Engagement must be consistent, while accounting for a variety of potential uncertainties. Each rule is singular and can stand on its own to achieve the result in which you desire.. or rules can be assembled and utilized simultaneously. Rules of Engagement does not dictate how a result is to be achieved, but will guide what measures are unacceptable.
