Do you remember those calls that you had to be home for? Those long calls that you waited all day to speak to that special person. Those calls that you had nothing else to talk about but music videos and which of those you wanted to live your life in. The phone calls that ended with one you of breathing heavily and falling asleep... you could just hang up and let that be the end of the conversation, but if you REALLY wanted to continue the conversation you'd press a button on the phone to make that sound (baaan) to wake'em up , lol. Or the classic "...you hang up, no you hang up". I'm talking about the phone calls you had before counting minutes was a thing!... Or years before waiting until after 9:00pm for the free minutes.
Yes.. That feeling.. that feeling of wanting to speak to that person all day and all night. "Or when your mom's would pick up the other phone her room and say ".. time to get off the phone now" lol and mess up the whoooooole vibe (thanks ma). lol.
Yeah, that's what this about. That good'ol house phone baby. lol. That big number, back light traffic green glow when you press it, long extension-cord house phone, haha!
The house phone was the end all be all growing up. Back when you had to know their number by heart. Back when fellas had to walk around with a pen and a piece paper for girls to write their name/number on... and all the girls had that rounded, bubble like chicken-head hand writing, lol (some still do). lol. This was a time man. A good time.
The idea for this shoot was to capture something nostalgic but simple... The Troubled Youth Dusty Pink hoodie is subtle but stands on it own in any environment yet we wanted to ensure that it was the focal point of the shoot... Instead of using the city as the backdrop like previous shoots, we decided to use an empty apartment. The space had elements of an old pre-war New York City apartment with large windows, freshly painted white walls, and hardwood floors. To add to the undertone(s) of nostalgia, we wanted to include a house phone. One that reminded us of a time once before.

I know you don't think I'm going to type 1000 words, right? Lol.. The 1000 Words article is in reference to that old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words". This article will explain the meaning, idea(s), or influences behind each photoshoot. I prefer to do things with purpose, significance.. Doing a random shoot, at a random location, holds no value.. Everything that I do.. will be done, with intent.
Since the development of Troubled Youth, it has been my idea to use my own life's experiences as the backdrop for the imagery in my shoots. Each shoot has an element or reference to my life, whether past or present, the association is relevant.
