HOW TO EAT A ROTTEN APPLE: PIZZA BARN a.k.a BIG ASS SLICE'S

How To Eat A Rotten Apple is your food guide on how/where/what to eat in New York City. It is a guide that provides real reviews from a voice within the culture, on the quality of the experience of the restaurants we visit around the city.

With the city back open and the streets being flooded by drunk brunchers, overpriced Ubers, and that stupid ass bike lane we decided to try to find spots with easy parking, so we've been heading uptown, faaaarrr uptown. We in Yonkers yall!!! (S/O to The Lox)...IYKYK. lol.

But yea, Yonkers. This was one of those summer nights where were just spinning the wheel, throwing out mad ideas of what to eat. It started with sushi, then Jamaican food, Sticky's all the way downtown on 8th Street, which would've been fire but we did that last time, so ehh. Then we was like fuck it lets grab a couple slices or a pie and we could split it... you get the toppings you want, I get the toppings I want.. cool.

At this time it was about 8/9 O'clock and it wasn't too many local spots still open at the time and if they were, they prolly trynna sell off those last couple dried out slices with the pineapple on it (stop putting pineapple on your pizza, you're in New York) Lol. But anyway, somebody told us about a pizza spot up in Yonkers, Pizza Barn, that had these big ass slices. Like BIG ASS slices! (made the shape of the pizza with my hands). I never had it, so I was like "bet, fuck it, we out.. google it". Now when we think think of Yonkers, we think that shit fake deep right, but na, that shit said 11min. Bet. Hoped right on the Deegan, and flew uptown.

The spot was right off the highway on the other side, directly across from the horse track... Anyway, we pull up and its the best thing anyone can hope for... a parking lot, lol, I'm sold already... We hop out, go in, the set up is cool pictures on the wall, big glass windows on the front so you can see the horse track and casino across, it has like an old school Italian vibe.. cool setup. We get to the front or the back, however you wanna look at it.. and we checked out the menu. They had a bunch of different shit.. Salads, appetizers, mozzarella sticks, pasta, deserts, mad shit.. But I heard about the big ass slices, so that's what we're here for. We ordered the big ass 24 inch slice, half pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, red peppers and other the half, classic cheese... and mozzarella sticks. A long with that, we had two sodas.. and the sodas came in those old school glass bottles.

The mozzarella sticks came out first, those were cool, nothing over the top. But soon after, the pizza came. Homeboy walked to the table with a big ass slice. Exactly what we ordered, hot, steaming, pilled with fresh ingredients. We didn't waste no time.. threw some parmesan cheese on that thang and got busy. Lol. The dough was soft, the sauce was good, and the toppings were fresh.. The peppers were soft, but firm if that makes any sense (that's how I can tell if produce is good or not).

Throughout the meal, the waiter came to the table once or twice asking if we needed anything... we kindly declined and finished up what we could of the big ass slice. We got through a good portion of it considering..

Overall, the experience at Pizza Barn was good. The food was great, the service was great, and the location right outside of the city was perfect. All together I spent about $55 with tip... not bad.
